Opening of Julia Grava’s exhibition “Seeing the Invisible”

The Warsaw Gasworks Museum invites you to the opening of Julia Grava’s painting exhibition, “Seeing the Invisible.” The opening will take place on October 16, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The works, in which nature becomes a language of emotions, connections, and inner transformations, will be on view from October 16 through November 8. Admission is free.

What can we perceive in a painting when we allow ourselves to look longer? In Julia Grava’s paintings, flowers, trees, and landscapes serve as a starting point for stories about people, their identities, relationships, memories, and transformations.

The artist employs rich colors, expressive textures, and symbolic motifs. Deliberately unfinished forms also play an important role in her work, leaving viewers room for personal interpretation.

Between Individuality and Community

One of the exhibition’s central themes is the relationship between the need to maintain one’s own voice and belonging to a larger community. The plant forms evoke different paces of growth, opening up, and self-discovery.

The selection of flower species, individual elements of the compositions, and unfinished forms creates an additional layer of meaning. The exhibition also explores themes of femininity, motherhood, and the right to undergo transformation at one’s own pace.

“Seeing the Invisible” is Julia Grava’s second solo exhibition. It invites visitors to a mindful encounter with art, during which familiar forms of nature allow us to examine what is difficult to capture in words: emotions, bonds, and personal experiences.

Admission to the exhibition is included in the price of a ticket to the MGW.
